"Ugg" boot is a generic term to describe shearling boots in Australia and has been used for over 20 years.

Classic and Ultra: Classics are what people think of when they think of Uggs, simple and soft with a EVA sole. Ultras are basically the same, but they have reinforcement at the heel and toe and have a non-slip rubber sole. If you want snow-boots as opposed to pure fashion boots, then go for the ultras.

Fine woollen sheepskin that breathes, wicking heat and moisture away to keep your feet dry and at body temperature indoors and out.

In cold weather (even to -30°F) the soft wool fibers act as a natural insulator, keeping your feet warm and comfortable. AND! In warm weather (even to 80°F) the soft fibers act as a natural air conditioner, keeping your feet cool and comfortable. The thick, natural fleece on the removable insole molds to the unique shape of your foot creating a natural arch support.

Uggs / Shearling / Sheepskin and Quality - When ordering shearling boots, be aware that there are many quality levels available. Check the description before purchasing. "Faux fur" or "Faux sheepskin / shearling" usually mean a synthetic substitute which may look similar at first but performs in a very different way to the real thing. You also usually get what you pay for - cheaper products can have significantly thinner sheepskin lining and soles that can slip to one side with wear (I'm sure you've seen them) making them uncomfortable to walk in and reducing their life-span considerably.
