"I try to adapt my work in the shape of a candleholder," explains Wisanu Kokettikul. "Instead of making a candle and a candleholder, I put both of them together. I also added golden foil to the surface. In Thailand, we believe in Buddha and there are always candles and candleholders on the altars or worship. With this candle I have integrated three things into one." Working closely with his wife and team, Koog designs the candles prior to their making. Once the wax is prepared and tinted, it is poured into molds of desired shape and left to set. Koog then proceeds to engrave the candles with motifs of his own inspiration, sometimes adding gold foil accents to ensure the uniqueness of each piece. Devoted to his new found craft, Koog comments: "You know, if you love to do something and it becomes your work, you will have more and more courage to do it again and again." The name of this set, Piithong means "Attached Gold" in English. |
