Smeerenburg, Amsterdam Island - Svalbard - 15


Apparently all this wood comes from Siberia where it is cut and rivers used to float it downstream where sometimes it escapes out into the open sea, at this point it may go around the Arctic Ocean for a year or two before as here being washed up on the gently sloping sheltered beach at Smeerenburg, another surreal encounter delivered courtesy of the High Arctic.
