The Dome. This dome formerly housed the South Pole Station. It acts as a roof under which structures were constructed rather than being the outer wall of a structure itself, the buildings inside were two stories tall. Now it is used only for storage.

In front of the dome is a buried arch that was later uncovered, raised, and altered. At the time of this photo there were three arches (barrel vaults) in a row, connected by smaller tunnels. By the end of the season there was one very long arch. The orange building on the left is Skylab. It is five stories tall, but is now mostly buried. Skylab and the Dome date from the mid-1970's.
