Madhubani Paintings
Artisan Crafted, World Heritage
Art Gallery - Paintings - Madhubani - from Novica in association with National Geographic bringing a range of handcrafted items from small scale crafts workshops, often run by a single craft worker in the developing world.
Madhubani is a district in the Mithila region of Bihar, India. Paintings that originate from here are characterised by eye-catching geometrical patterns which are made with a variety of tools, such as fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks using natural dyes and pigments. It is a centuries old style of painting typical of a small geographic area, initially painted on walls and floors, the paintings are now mainly done on cloth, paper and canvas.
