Snow Algae and Glacier - Svalbard

The summer months mean 24 hour daylight and snowmelt. Melting snow frees dissolved nutrients that were held in place, all that light means lots of opportunity for photosynthesis, here pink snow algae living in the snow itself is taking advantage of both of these things.
