Where the name comes from: A form of Beryl named for its color, aqua marina in Latin - water of the sea.Where the stones come from: Localized deposits found worldwide, Brazil in particular.
Chemistry: Beryllium aluminum silicate or Beryl, Be3Al2(SiO3)6 - the blue color is produced by iron II and iron III ions.
Colors: Shades of blue from pale to dark but mainly light.
...and another thing: Many made up stories surround aquamarine, my favorite is that it originated in mermaids treasure chests.
