Where the name comes from: Greek chrysos - gold, and kolla - glue. used in the soldering of gold.Where the stones come from: Typically from copper mining areas such as Chile, Russia and Zaire.
Chemistry: Hydrated copper silicate, somewhat variable in formula, (Cu,Al)2H2Si2O5(OH)4.nH2O often found with other copper minerals, a minor ore of copper.
Colors: Green, bluish-green to blue. Also to brown with bluish tinges.
...and another thing: Rarely mined or found as gem quality stones, can be confused with turquoise.
