Where the name comes from: Cornelian as it used to be known, from Latin cornum, the carnel cherry from the color.
Where the stones come from: India and South America in particular.
Chemistry: Silicon dioxide, SiO2
Colors: Brownish red.
...and another thing: Used to make seals to imprint on letters as hot wax doesn't stick to it
