About Dec 1960 a portion of old roofing near the old garage and snow melter/generator shack (south edge of the station) collapsed, taking with it the main power cable to the rest of the station - meaning no light, no heat, and no radio! Within a few hours, the insides of the buildings were down to freezing levels due to lack of power to run the furnaces.
