The original toilet pit was dug beneath the building to the left, initially the old garage building. When we arrived, the pit was full. The only unused portion was that which was just outside the wall of the building where the initial pit access was dug. We had to move the to8let seats out over this area of the pit until a new facility could be dug and built. Ambient temperature was a constant -45 or so, and the wall to the right in the picture was the outside wall of the station, slowly breaking in. None of this was conducive to good bowel habits.
