Reportedly, when the station was being built by the US Navy SeaBees, the penguins were always getting in their way. To solve this, a fence was erected around the base site, and penguins were then carried out of the fenced in area, taking care to keep chicks with parents, etc. Then when a dynamite blast was set off to clear some rock, the penguins panicked, rushed the fence knocking it down, and the process had to be done all over again.
