Signy and RSS Shackleton in 2003

The classic base + ships shot, there have been many variations of both over the years.

Superficially similar to how it always was, but also very different. Looks a lot better now the ugly big yellow plastic main hut has gone - despite whatever fond memories I may have of it. Also gone is the big ugly bulk fuel tank that dominated the now empty area between the base and the ship in this picture.

The worse off for the loss of Tønsberg House - made us feel more like the early Antarctic Expeditioners with a dark-stained wooden hut - despite the fact it leaked like a sieve when the wind blew through it. Note the walkways connecting the main buildings. No more negotiating Signy's highly rugged rocky terrain while carrying large awkwardly shaped and immensely heavy cargo boxes - where's the fun it that then?
