Once again Ron was foiled in his attempts to write his diary in secret

Terrestrial biologists unlike many other Antarctic scientists take lots of readings in the field rather than take things back to the base to work on - or at least they used to. Remote data logging has become an increasing part of Antarctic science and what used to be done with pencil and notepad like this is largely done with some electronic device that lives in a weather proof box with emerging wires connected to a range of sensors.
There is still much work to be done in the field however and once one thing is made easier, the scientists will then start on something else that was previously too difficult or impossible. A field scientists life will probably always have the same level of discomfort therefore.
