The most difficult form of drinking water of all to obtain was from very large pieces of ice that needed to be broken into smaller pieces to be manageable. This seems quite straightforward in prospect, but the reality is far more difficult than you imagine. Much more effort needed to break the ice off and then much of it shatters as icy shrapnel rather than the larger more conveniently managed pieces that you would like to have.
