1962 - Winter can drag on, especially if grey skies set in for weeks on end as it seems they sometimes do. However every now and then, the temperature drops, the sea-ice stabilizes, the sun comes out and that rarest and most welcome of events the fabled "Dingle Day" arrives. Suddenly spirits are lifted as if a rock you've been living under is taken away. Work is forgotten about and everyone get their boots on to get out and enjoy the real reason that they wanted to go to Antarctica in the first place.
