Some idea of how broken and rugged the landscape of Signy is can be seen in this picture. There is no-where that is a flat walk away, everywhere is up and down hills all the time, the terrain is usually rocky with a lot of overlying scree which is awkward to negotiate if there is no convenient snow or ice-slope nearby. The advantage of this is that it makes Signy seem larger than its actual approx 5 x 3 miles. If it was flat and easy to get around, then it would seem quite boring, as it is, different parts of the island become a whole distant walk in themselves.
