1975 - The precious sea ice with all it's Antarctic whiteness and travelling opportunities eventually breaks up and starts to float away. The sea ice edge many miles away is eventually broken up by sea movements and wind, this broken edge then advances closer to Signy. The sea swell then breaks up the remaining ice in coves and bays and it floats away while the base members watch the inevitable with heavy hearts.
