1928 - First flight over the Antarctic continent (the peninsula) taking off from Deception Island by Hubert Wilkins in a single engine float plane.
1955 - First flights to McMurdo station Antarctica from Christchurch New Zealand, by two Lockheed P2V-2 Neptunes (colour) and two R5D Skymasters (shown with cover to heat engine prior to take off).
