1936 - 69 year old Jean Baptiste Charcot and his ship the Pourquoi-Pas? built for his Second French Antarctic Expedition 1908-1910 - are lost in a storm off the coast of Iceland. 35 crew were lost, 23 bodies recovered with just one survivor.
