2007 - The cruise ship M/V Explorer is holed by ice in the Bransfield Strait and subsequently sinks in 1500m of water.
Fortunately the collision occurred in calm conditions, so all passengers and crew were able to get off the ship safely and into lifeboats to be picked up by other ships in the area.
Conditions of sea-state and wind became much rougher following the sinking which combined with it being in deep water far from land meant that the feared pollution from the ship was dispersed quickly before it could wash ashore or affect sealife and birds.
